At Fearless Girls Club, every session begins with a collaborative club doodle on a long roll of paper reaching across the hall. As the girls arrive, they contribute to this shared artwork, sitting and doodling together from the moment they walk into the room. We add to the same piece of artwork together every week, ending up with a huge piece of collaborative creativity to display at the end of the year! We have just started our own Fearless Girls Club playlist of the girls’ favourite songs to listen or sing along to as they doodle.

Drawing, particularly in a group setting, has many therapeutic benefits. It reduces stress and anxiety, providing a calming and contained outlet for emotions. When paired with conversation, it allows thoughts and feelings to flow naturally, bypassing the pressures of direct verbal communication. This makes it especially beneficial for shy or nervous club members, offering a gentle, non-intimidating way to engage with their peers and settle in to the session. For all our members, this activity serves as a bridge into the session, easing social interactions and encouraging natural conversations.

As the artwork evolves over the weeks we work on it together, it becomes a reflection of the club’s shared journey and energy. Each girl can point to her own doodles while appreciating other people’s, and celebrating their collective contributions.

In a world focused on competition and perfection, the club doodle celebrates creativity, collaboration, conversation and contentment. It’s a powerful way to unite the girls at the start of the session and an important part of how we encourage them to be bold, fearless and unapologetically themselves.
