Why Reading Matters

One of the most powerful things books give girls is perspective.

A great story allows a child to step into somebody else's world, wrestle with difficult questions, imagine different futures and discover parts of themselves they hadn't noticed before.

Not every book needs a lesson – sometimes a bloody good story is enough.

But the best books often leave girls with something else too: a sense that they can be brave, curious, complicated, thoughtful and utterly themselves.
