How and Why Our Subscription Boxes Are Shaped by Girls Themselves

One of the things we care about most at Fearless Girls Club is making sure girls feel seen, heard and genuinely involved in shaping their own experience. This approach is baked in to both our after-school club model and our brand new subscription boxes.
Rather than designing everything behind closed doors, we co-create each box with the girls in the club. Their feedback isn’t just welcomed, it’s built into the process. After every box, we ask what they liked, what they’d change and what they’d love to see more of. And then, we actually act on it.
A few things they’ve asked for recently are more puzzles in the magazine, posters they’d want on their bedroom walls and keyrings they can clip to their school bags. They wanted more colour, more space to be creative and a regular recipe page with recipes shared by the girls themselves, complete with photos. One even said, “I want to see someone like me on the front cover” so now, every box features a club member right there on the front.
They’ve also told us how much they enjoy reading about real women and girls doing cool, brave, interesting things so we’ve made space for those stories too. Whether it’s a teenage climate campaigner or a young girl with a world-changing invention, they aren’t perfect role models on a pedestal – they’re relatable, inspiring people who show what’s possible.
We check in regularly with our Fearless Forum Youth Council, a group of girls who meet with us to test ideas, give feedback and keep us grounded in what really matters. They’re honest, thoughtful and often have us in stitches! And their ideas genuinely shape what goes into the club session and the subscription box.
For us, our boxes aren’t about making something ‘cool’ or trying to make money (we’re a non-profit and we don’t pay ourselves). It’s about trusting girls to lead and showing them that their ideas count. We know that when girls feel ownership over something, they engage more deeply with it. They’re more curious, more confident and more likely to see themselves as part of something meaningful, and that’s the goal – a club they’ve helped build and can grow with.
